tEXAS rULES:
1) ANYBODY CAN ENTER! To preregister for the canal jump competition, you can simply click on the Athlete register button on the home page, and select which division you would like to compete in. Anyone registering in advance will be eligible for a free T-shirt, so please give us your size. We will also be taking entries for the canal vault the day of the competition. No free shirt the day of, but shirts will be available for purchase.
2) POLE SELECTION: The facility will not provide poles for the competition, so be sure and grab the biggest, longest pole you have in the shed and bring it with you. If you would like to do some research and modify the tip for the muddy tank bottoms we have in Texas, you are welcome to do that as well! Pole must be a certifiable Pole Vault pole, and must be rated above the jumper's weight! Judges will not pre weigh or certify poles, but if it appears that the jumper will be in danger by using the pole, the pole will be disqualified.
3) AWARDS: First place will receive a trophy and a purse if in the non-amateur division. Second and Third place will receive only a trophy.
4)HOW WE MEASURE: We will have a couple of officials, one on the lake, and one on the bank, to watch where the vaulter lands in the water, and will have three markers for the top 3 finishers. The mark placed by the two officials is a judgment call, and can not be protested during or after the meet. No protests allowed!!!
5)RUNWAY: At the completion of the last vault competition on one of our flat runways, the runway will be transported to the lake and set up for you to use as an approach. Approximate height from the end of the pier to the bottom of the lake will be 6'.
6)NO SAND BARGE: As this is not a Norwegian competition, and we get to make up our own TEXAS rules, there will be no sandy landing area. All competitors must complete the jump into the water of the lake.
7)HOW YOU PLACE: The three places will be determined by the three longest jumps into the lake. This is not to see how high you can jump, but long you can go out into the lake. If you are unfamiliar with Canal Jumping techniques, it would be advised that you watch YouTube, or fly over to Norway or Sweden for some private coaching by the pros for this one!!!
8)ITS ABOUT THE FUN! We are all in this together, and camaraderie is expected. Foul, Negative, or derogatory language will not be tolerated and the competitor will be immediately disqualified. Texas River Vault also reserves the right to remove any competitor and reimburse entry money if we deem for some reason the person is not in the right capacity to safely compete in the competition.
If you think we forgot an important rule, you can email management before the day of the meet and we can discuss additional things that may have been missed in the TEXAS Canal Jumping Rule Book! Beginning at midnight on the date of the meet, all rules are final, and will be posted to this page.
